Uotoshi Ryokan, nestled in Nagano’s serene mountain village of Yamanouchi, offers traditional Japanese hospitality with modern comforts. Guests can unwind in a hot spring bath after enjoying a very good breakfast served daily, while free on-site parking ensures easy access for visitors arriving by car. The ryokan blends rustic charm with practical conveniences, making it ideal for travelers seeking relaxation amid nature without sacrificing convenience. Nearby attractions include Shimotakai, a scenic plateau known for its untouched wilderness just beyond the village limits, perfect for hiking and stargazing. For those exploring further afield, Matsumoto Airport lies 103 kilometers away—a roughly two-hour drive through picturesque countryside routes. Closer still, the Yomase No. 1 Lift provides panoramic views of the surrounding mountains in seven minutes’ drive (six kilometers), while Sobaroku, a historic sake brewery offering tastings and tours, sits even nearer at four kilometers or three-minute drive. Hasuike Pond rounds out the area’s highlights with its tranquil waters and seasonal foliage displays, accessible within twelve minutes (fourteen kilometers) by road.
My 2 nights stay here was really a relaxing one after a week of snowboarding in Myoko. I had my first time stay in a ryokan where it has everything I need…amazing Japanese breakfast and dinner, hot springs, strong wifi and free laundry too.
